This idea of “in retrospect” or looking back and asking “What advice would you give your younger self?” leads me to think the following.
I grew up detached from thoughts or feelings that were not pleasant.
As a young boy, showing or expressing these type of experiences wasn’t learned or encouraged.
The advice I would give my younger self is that acknowledging and understanding your vulnerabilities—unpleasant thoughts or feelings, pain, sadness, anger, fear—leads you to strength and peace.
I don’t know if I would have understood the advice.
But I know it now.
And I get to witness this type of self-awareness and refreshing journey with the Hispanic/Latino men I enter into coaching partnerships with.
